Slipper Island is a truly stunning New Zealand treasure. Slipper Island Resort makes up 95 percent of the 224-hectare island meaning our guests have access to nearly the entire island.
This means freedom to explore, safe, sheltered, sandy beaches for swimming, paddling or building sandcastles, wide expanses to hit or kick a ball around, space to fly a kite without power lines, hills to climb up or mountain bike down – good old-fashioned kiwi fun! Or make the most of the seclusion to relax, take a breather from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and leave feeling refreshed.
There are a number of stunning walks around the island, with sweeping views back to the mainland, out to the Pacific Ocean and of the incredible geographic features of the island that guests can enjoy.
Guests have access to an entire coastline with sheltered bays, safe swimming and soft white sand for relaxing or wandering. The water is crystal clear and safe for beginner snorkelers, while scuba and free divers will enjoy having diving right on the doorstep – just step straight off the beach!
Slipper Island also provides charter fishing service. Our 20-years experienced local skipper will show you a wonderful fishing trip. His personal achievement includes 10KG+ Snapper, 153KG Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna and 35KG Moonfish. He got all the fishing knowledge and can show you the right techniques to catch your epic fish! Our boat Slipper Express is a purpose-built sports fishing machine. It has huge space for ideally 4 anglers to fish at the same time. Since fishing is a very weather and sea condition depends activities, please arrange your fishing trip with the island manager in advance.
We also provide land-based fishing gear with bait for clients to rent.
We have the privilege of sharing the beach with the endangered New Zealand dotterel, and expect our guests to respect the cordoned off areas.
We do not allow any dogs to visit the island, and there is a year-round fire ban.
Slipper Island is also home to a working sheep and cow farm, with many other animals around the island, including horses, alpacas and peacocks.
We have good relationships with local operators and can work with you to book activities including diving trips and fishing charters.
